LASIK Surgery Cost – More Than Just the Price.
LASIK eye surgery cost is about much more than monetary value. When considering LASIK surgery prices, you might be tempted to choose the cheapest provider, but doing so could risk your chances of a successful outcome. Cheap surgery often means a less experienced surgeon, older equipment, and therefore, less advanced technology – all of which may increase the risk of an undesirable outcome
The Price of Excellence
By coming to TLC San Antonio, you can trust our highly skilled surgeons and our surgical team to provide excellent care before and after surgery. You’ll also be able to benefit from the latest surgical technology and diagnostic testing in a safe and comfortable environment. This inevitably comes at a price; however, we strongly believe that it’s always worth investing in your vision.
LASIK Surgery Price Breakdown
There are several things that should be considered when looking at the cost of LASIK treatment. Along with the procedure itself, additional factors that contribute towards the final cost include:
- the type of LASIK surgery you are undergoing
- all post-operative care
- LASIK touch-ups
- the surgeon who is performing your surgery
With all of this in mind, our quality providers will provide a more personal approach, leading to less chance of complications and a faster recovery time for you.
Do you want to enjoy the benefits of LASIK eye surgery but aren’t sure how you can cover the cost? Thankfully, there are several LASIK financing options you can consider to make your treatment more affordable and bring you a step closer to clearer vision.
At TLC San Antonio, we accept the following LASIK surgery discounts and financing options:
Insurance
TLC San Antonio partners with most vision and health insurance companies to give members a savings on LASIK. These include but are not limited to VSP, Davis Vision, Regence and most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.
The program is simple. TLC will determine your cost with your appropriate savings applied. There are no claim forms to file or waiting on reimbursement. We take your savings off our retail fees and you pay the lower price on the day of your procedure. It is that easy!
TLC San Antonio will work with you to determine if you are eligible for any discounts for your LASIK procedure and assist you with any questions you may have.
Most major medical plans and vision plans include a LASIK benefit, which is a discount on LASIK surgery fees. TLC San Antonio honors these discounts (however, the insurance discount cannot be combined with any other discounts).
You may find that you don’t have to pay the full retail fee for LASIK because many insurance providers provide a discount on LASIK surgery. We partner with a large number of health and vision insurance companies that include a benefit for LASIK surgery in their plans, including:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Health Net
- Cigna
- Aetna
- Anthem
- VSP
- Davis Vision
- And many more!
To learn more about whether you are eligible for a LASIK discount you can contact your insurance provider or contact our office directly.

Health Savings Account (HSA) for LASIK
People who have a high deductible health plan (HDHP) can use a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help pay for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses like LASIK and other laser eye surgeries.
HSAs are tax-exempt accounts that can be set up to pay for certain medical expenses, including the lasik eye surgery cost. The money in your HSA can be used to reimburse you for expenses not covered by your HDHP.
Maximize your tax-savings by contributing to your HSA until you reach the limit set by the IRS every year. The money you contribute rolls over, meaning you can grow your HSA account to use in retirement and later in life.
In order to set up an HSA, you must find a qualified HSA trustee to work with (these can include banks, insurance companies, or anyone already approved by the IRS to be a trustee of individual retirement arrangements.)
The Benefits of an HSA
- You can use your HSA to help cover the cost of LASIK and other laser eye surgeries provided by TLC.
- You can claim tax deductions for contributions you, or someone other than your employer, makes to your HSA.
- Contributions from your employer may be excluded from your gross income.
- Contributions roll over from year to year until you use them.
- Interest or other earnings on the HSA account are tax free.
How Does an HSA Work?
To start saving under a HSA plan, you first must qualify by meeting a set of requirements determined by the IRS, primarily if you have a high deductible health plan. If you qualify, the next step would be to set up your HSA through a qualified HSA trustee. Employers can also choose to offer HSAs and make contributions to their employee’s Health Savings Accounts.
You will generally pay your medical expenses throughout the year without reimbursement from your HDHP until you reach the annual deductible for the plan. When you pay medical expenses that aren’t reimbursed by your HDHP, you can receive a distribution from your HSA to help cover the payment.
Many elective medical procedures are covered under HSAs, including LASIK and other laser vision eye procedures. Some employers do not participate in the HSA program, so it is recommended that you speak with your benefits manager.
Financing Options
Care Credit
We work with Care Credit to offer patients attractive financing options that make your LASIK procedure as affordable as possible. Care Credit is a credit card designed exclusively for healthcare services, with special financing offers such as up to 24 months with 0% interest. You’ll get an answer within minutes of completing your application, and with a 95% approval rate, you stand a good chance of success with funds that will be made available immediately.
In House Financing
TLC San Antonio is proud to offer an in-house financing plan up with monthly payments for up to 48 months.
- 0% interest
- $1,300 down payment with a $25 minimum monthly payment per eye until the balance is paid off.
- Refer a friend or family member to receive a $500 deduction from your owed balance. (Your credit will be applied to your balance once the referral completes their LASIK procedure)
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) (also called a flex plan, reimbursement account, Flex 125, Tax Saving Plan, Medical Spending Account, a Section 125, or a Cafeteria Plan) is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows you to pay for eligible medical expenses on a pre-tax basis.
FSA Benefits
- FSA reduces your income taxes.
- Your taxable income decreases and your spendable income increases.
- You can use these benefits to save hundreds or thousands of dollars a year.
Estimated Income Tax Savings
Your Annual Contribution | 15% Tax Bracket | 28% Tax Bracket | 31% Tax Bracket |
---|---|---|---|
$100 | $30 | $43 | $46 |
$250 | $74 | $107 | $114 |
$500 | $148 | $213 | $228 |
$1,000 | $296 | $426 | $457 |
$3,000 | $890 | $1,280 | $1,370 |
$5,000 | $1,483 | $2,133 | $2,283 |
Note: This example takes into account federal income taxes, FICA (Social Security taxes) at 7.65%, and state taxes at 7% (state taxes will vary).
How Does a Flexible Spending Account Work?
To begin saving, your employer will ask you how much money you’d like to contribute for the year (limits apply). There is only one opportunity a year to enroll, except in the case of qualified “family status changes” such as marriage, divorce, birth, or loss of a spouse’s insurance coverage.
The amount you designate for the year is taken out of your paycheck in equal installments each pay period and placed in a special account by your employer. When you incur medical expenses not fully covered by your insurance, you submit a copy of the Explanation of Benefits or the provider’s invoice and proof of payment to the plan administrator, who will then issue you a reimbursement check.
What Expenses Are Eligible?
- Most elective surgeries
- Laser vision correction (LASIK & PRK)
- Deductibles
- Eyeglasses
- Prescription drug co-payments
- Any expense that is considered a deductible medical expense by the IRS and not reimbursed through the FSA.
Not all employers participate in FSA programs, so it is recommended that you check with your benefits manager to see if your employer participates. It is important to calculate how much money to contribute for the year. If you put in more money than you need, by law, you will not be able to receive it back. For LASIK surgery, we recommend that you have a consultation first to determine candidacy prior to making any allocations to your Flexible Spending Account.
